Geddy is a supporting character in Owlboy, and the first gunner unlocked. He is the best friend of Otus and accompanies him on his adventure. He carries a "tiny but precise blaster"[1] that is "effective in most combat situations but not against solid rock or steel." He is also the defense engineer in Vellie.

Story[]

Geddy trained alongside Anne when becoming a soldier. He was never the strongest soldier, but he had great courage and his attitude was admired by many. His military training made him more responsible and confident.[2] As a result of his ineptitude in battle, he was stationed in the smaller Vellie Guard instead of the prestigious Advent Guard.

Geddy follows Otus throughout nearly the entire game. His only absence comes after Twig joins the party. Still upset about Advent, he goes back to Vellie and only comes back just in time to save the squad from Molstrom, in the pirate base.

Geddy was forced to watch the destruction of Advent from the pirate Dreadnaught, which probably filled his trauma.

Personality[]

Geddy is a joyful young man who stands up for Otus and Solus against bullies like Fib and Bonacci. He also defends Otus against Asio. He likes to celebrate small victories, especially to cheer Otus up.

He's skittish, hotheaded at times, but cares for the well being of people he doesn't know. He is willing to sacrifice himself for his friends. Despite that, there are lots of things he is afraid of and he cowers away often.[3] Among other things, he's afraid of the dark and caves.

After Advent's destruction, he blames himself a lot, but eventually turns that guilt into motivation to try harder next time.

Surprisingly enough, he's able to recall Solus' exact words about the Book of Noctae.

Abilities[]

  • Has a small blaster with a high fire rate and low damage.

Relationships[]

Otus[]

Geddy is Otus's best friend, and Geddy usually fends off bullies (namely Fib and Bonacci) when they pick on Otus based on his disability. Geddy is one of the main characters and helps out Otus with his tasks. Otus carries Geddy by his shoulders, and the two generally support each other throughout their adventures. Among other things, Geddy consoles Otus when he goes to a special spot in Tropos which makes him upset, with the Boguin's shell that is said to contain the voices of the dead. Geddy calls Otus and Himself the "unstoppable team".

When Geddy leaves mid-game, Otus gets very upset when camping without him. As for Geddy, he behaves like a different person entirely when without Otus.[4]

Alphonse[]

Geddy was afraid of Alphonse at first, him being a rather large (former) pirate. He warmed up to him a bit, however, after realizing that Alphonse is a bit more polite and personable than the other pirates. Geddy is also grateful about Alphonse defending them against Dirk earlier.

Alphonse praises Otus and Geddy often, mentioning they make a great team.

Twig[]

Geddy placed a lot of the blame for the destruction of Advent on Twig and his collusion with Dirk and left the party for a short time, before realizing Twig was just being used and he was projecting his own guilt onto an easy target.

Trivia[]

  • According to D-Pad Studio's Tumblr, Geddy was revealed to be somewhere in his early twenties age wise.[5]
  • An unused line shows that Geddy's hometown is Advent, which explains his grief over the city's destruction.
  • He's the only gunner who can get whacked against the walls. Doing this enough times unlocks an achievement.
  • Confirmed by Adrian, Geddy has no bones. (Source)
  • Certain lines spoken by Geddy, as well official artwork of the game implies that he's in love with Mandolyn.
