The Pirates are a force of rogue automatons formed by Molstrom. The automatons were initially created by the Ancient Owls, specifically Aegolius; however, once the owls all but disappeared after the failure of the Hex Machine, Molstrom's war-oriented programming made him want to continue destroying everything. He offered a "join or die" ultimatum to the other automatons, and renamed their group Pirates.
